Nottingham Forest 3 - 4 Blackpool: Campbell and Dobbie take Blackpool to Wembley

A BRILLIANT hat-trick by Blackpool striker DJ Campbell and a match-changing contribution from substitute Stephen Dobbie took Blackpool to Wembley and 90 minutes away from the Premier League, as Billy Davies and Nottingham Forest's promotion dream was shattered.

Forest had led 1-0 and 2-1 thanks to goals from veteran striker Robert Earnshaw, either side of a Campbell equaliser, and looked on course at least to take the play-off semi-final tie to extra time following Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Bloomfield Road.

But former Hibs and Queen of the South striker Dobbie came off the bench in the 69th minute and equalised on the night and edged the Seasiders ahead again within three minutes of coming on with a deflected shot. The Scot then combined brilliantly with striker partner Campbell, with the latter curling home his second of the game to put Blackpool 3-2 up on the night. The former Birmingham man completed his hat-trick in the 79th minute, reacting first after Dobbie's fierce shot had been parried by the keeper, and by the time Dele Adebola pulled one back for Forest it was scant consolation as Ian Holloway's side booked their place in the final.

"I am very proud," beamed Holloway. "We knew it would be tough and I didn't know if we would have the answers to the questions they asked.

"I said it would have to be the best we have ever played if we were to do it – and I think it was the best we have ever played."

Captain Charlie Adam, the former Rangers midfielder, avoided a yellow card which means he will be free to play in the final against the winners of tonight's other semi-final between Cardiff and Leicester City. The Welsh side hold a 1-0 advantage from the first leg.

Forest manager Davies said: "In big games you have to be confident enough to get on the ball and show composure and bravery and an arrogance second to none, but we didn't do that tonight. Credit to Blackpool, they handled it better than we did. We had too many players freeze on the night.

"I think the play-offs came too late for us. I wish they had come in December when we had round pegs in round holes. But Blackpool deserved it and I wish them all the best in the final. I hope they win it."
