Impossibly steep terraces, towering floodlight pylons looming over the playing surface, and wooden throwbacks to the 1920s were once common appearances at most Scottish football grounds – although more than a few vanished as clubs moved to new stadiums to avoid costly and time-consuming upgrades on tired stands.

Many of the grounds that survived have changed beyond recognition although some – like Dundee, Motherwell, Dundee United or Raith Rovers – have retained unique or quirky aspects to this day. We've picked out 13 Scottish football grounds to have undergone serious redevelopment since the 1980s.
