Non-stop Fraser Thomson in demand at Sale

FRASER Thomson will complete a hectic few weeks of rugby on Monday when he returns to Sale Reserves for the Aviva A League Final against Leicester.

The 21-year-old Melrose full-back impressed for the Sharks in Monday's semi-final, which resulted in a dramatic 30-29 victory over a strong Saracens reserve side. His scything break through the Sarries defence at a crucial late stage stemmed the Saracens fightback and impressed the watching Sale support.

Thomson played for Melrose in the Scottish Cup Final 12 days ago, then played for Sale two days later in a reserve league match, returned to play in Melrose's league-winning match against Ayr on Saturday and was back in Sale colours at Heywood Road on Monday. He started Melrose on their way to their 13th Border League title last night with the first try at Peebles and is looking forward to another trip south on Monday which could clinch the youngster from Galashiels a professional contract.

Thomson said: "I have really enjoyed the opportunities Sale have given me and it was great to play in the semi-final. It has been a bit hectic, but we have had a great finish to the season at Melrose and I am glad I was able to be part of the 'treble' we've claimed in the last few weeks.

"I still want to play sevens and see if we can regain the 'Kings of the Sevens' trophy too, but Monday is a big opportunity for me now."
