Newbattle go joint-top

NEWBATTLE stepped up their bid to win this season’s Midlothian Winter League after an away win at Glencorse.

The Milton Bridge men have rarely lost at home in the event but went down 3-2 in a keenly-fought encounter.

Craig and Scott Stables won at No. 2 in the order, while Graeme Reid and Greg Thorburn also delivered an important point.

But, in the decisive match, Scott Simpson and Peter Hardwick beat Jim Laing and Stuart Reid to secure full points for the visitors.

Newbattle now share top spot with Harburn, who won 4-1 at home against Broomieknowe in their latest encounter.

Stuart Beck and Justen Ross were the sole victors for the visitors, who are still winless.
