New Welfare boss says team needs to change its mindset

Whitehill Welfare's new manager, Rab Paget, has wasted no time in identifying a key weakness.

Paget saw his charges beaten 2-0 in his first game against Preston Athletic at the weekend, and said: "There was a lack of fitness and match practice against a Preston side who were fighting for their lives with a purpose."

Welfare go into tonight's crucial Central Taxis Premier Division game against relegation threatened Heriot-Watt University, with Paget saying: "We will have to change our mindset and hopefully my players will show some self-belief.

"We had an excellent training session on Monday night which the players really enjoyed. Everything was done at a high tempo and that's what we want because Whitehill Welfare Football Club has phenomenal potential. Heriot-Watt are in a similar position to Preston so we should certainly know what to expect."

Paget has signed defender Michael Bruce from Edinburgh City while the banned duo of Scott Gormley and Jordan Hall are now available.

Meanwhile, Heriot-Watt head coach Michael Renwick reflected on his side's 1-1 draw with Civil Service Strollers at the weekend, saying: "It was a very competitive game between two very balanced teams. Tonight will be difficult although we are at full strength and we will give it our best shot.

"That's all I can ask from my players. We know what is required, our confidence is high but Whitehill don't lose many games back to back and they will be looking to bounce back."

The Heriot-Watt striker, Banji Koya, with three goals in his last two games, will be determined to score against his previous club.

Elsewhere, Spartans - winners of the Image Printers East of Scotland Qualifying Cup on Sunday - entertain near neighbours Civil Service Strollers while Lothian Thistle host Selkirk at Saughton Enclosure. All games kick off at 7.30 pm.
