New role for former Scottish national coach Spencer Henderson
FirstPoint USA post hailed as ‘fantastic prospect’ by highly-respected figure
Spencer Henderson, the former Scottish men’s national coach, has been appointed as director of golf by FirstPoint USA, one of the world’s leading bodies in US collegiate sports scholarship and university placement services.
For 25 years, FirstPoint USA has facilitated life-changing opportunities for prospective student-athletes. Its notable golfing alumni include 2016 Masters champion Danny Willett (Jacksonville State University) and two-time PGA Tour winner Russell Knox (Jacksonville University).

Henderson, who, most recently, had been coaching talented juniors at Paul Lawrie’s Academy in Aberdeen while continuing a mentoring role with the Barrie Douglas Foundation, will now be involved in giving the next generation of starts similar opportunities.
“We are thrilled to welcome a professional of Spencer’s calibre to lead and expand our international golf activities,” said Andrew Kean, founder and chief executive of FirstPoint USA. “His reputation across the junior golfing landscape is second to none, built on 25 years of helping young athletes reach the highest levels of the sport. Crucially, Spencer has earned the complete trust of players and their families.
“That background - combined with his deep credibility among US collegiate coaches - makes him the ideal figure to guide our student-athletes toward the right academic and athletic programmes.”
In his new capacity, Henderson reunites with former Scottish Golf colleague Ross Duncan, who leads FirstPoint’s marketing team.
“Joining FirstPoint USA at such an exciting time is a fantastic prospect,” said Henderson, who, in addition to his roles for Scottish Golf, also worked wonders in spells in Turkey and Azerbaijan. “Over the years, I’ve seen firsthand how the US college system acts as a proven springboard for elite juniors.
“Between the world-class facilities, depth of competition, and investment in athletes, it offers an incredible environment for player development, alongside the security of earning an academic degree. I’m looking forward to connecting with US college coaches to help them identify talent from all over the world that can enhance their programs.”
