New League Cup sponsor

The League Cup is to be known as the Scottish Communities League Cup next season following a new sponsorship deal.

The 1million package will be funded by cash seized from criminals from the Proceeds of Crime Act. The competition was previously sponsored by Co-operative Insurance, whose involvement ended following Sunday's final at Hampden.

The new deal was announced by First Minister Alex Salmond today. Scottish Football League chief executive David Longmuir said: "This new partnership will build on the tremendous community legacy that has been achieved with our previous sponsors, Co-operative Insurance."
