Netball: Hannah nets Scotland cap

Edinburgh schoolgirl Hannah McCaig has been named in the Scotland under-17 netball squad for the upcoming European Championships.

The Balerno Community High School pupil, who also turns out for Edinburgh Netball Club, has been training with an enlarged squad for two months and has done enough to get into the final 12.

The event takes place in the Republic of Ireland in March with the young Scots set to take on Wales, Northern Ireland and England in the performance section.

Coach Lesley MacDonald said: "We are delighted to announce the under-17 squad for the 2011 European Championships.

"We have selected a very exciting and determined team.

"Together they have worked extremely hard to ensure they will represent their country with pride at the championships."

The under-19 squad are also in action in their own European Championships in March.

The event will take place in Wales.
