Neil Robertson finds his form in Glasgow

WORLD snooker champion Neil Robertson joined the last-16 line-up at the 12bet.com World Open in Glasgow by knocking out Irish prospect David Morris.

Robertson was a victim of Peter Ebdon in the first round of the Shanghai Masters earlier this month but is playing himself back to form at the SECC.

He followed up his last-64 win over Scotland's Graeme Dott - the man he beat to clinch Crucible glory in May - by earning a 3-1 win against 21-year-old Morris. The Australian took the opening frame thanks to a break of 72, before Morris won a scrappy second to haul himself level.

Robertson eased himself back in front with a run of 62 in the third frame, before coming from behind in the next to book his place in the random draw for the next round. There was more Irish disappointment, as Ken Doherty, the 1997 world champion, bowed out to Barry Hawkins.

Kent cueman Hawkins gave a strong display, with breaks of 57, 73 and 53 earning a 3-1 triumph, as he followed up his eye-catching victory over Mark Selby in the previous round.

Former Scottish amateur champion James McBain was outclassed by England's Ricky Walden, losing 3-0 despite making a fight of an absorbing 43-minute third frame. Walden had made a break of 102 to win the second frame.

The last 16 is sure to feature a clash of the snooker titans tomorrow afternoon as seven-times world champion Stephen Hendry will face either Ronnie O'Sullivan or Jimmy White.

The random draw took place at the SECC in Glasgow last night, and Hendry came out of the hat against the winner of the Rocket v Whirlwind tie, which takes place today at 12.30pm. Stephen Maguire or Judd Trump will face Alan McManus, while Robertson will face either Marco Fu or Andrew Higginson.

Hendry believes he can play himself into title-winning form after reaching the last 16. The 41-year-old Scot, who has not won a ranking event since 2005, does not believe he is performing well enough to be considered a potential champion just now. But all that could change if he posts another couple of wins.

"My confidence will come back if I have a decent run with some good performances, even just getting to a quarter or semi-final," Hendry said.
