Neil Lennon still on the hunt for goalkeeper

CELTIC manager Neil Lennon remains hopeful of recruiting a new goalkeeper ahead of Monday night's Uefa registration deadline for the Europa League play-off tie against Sion.

But while Lennon yesterday confirmed his interest in Polish international 'keeper Grzegorz Sandomierski, he would not be eligible to face Sion as he has already played for his current club, Jagiellonia Bialystok, in the first qualifying round of the tournament this season.

Celtic have also been strongly linked with a season-long loan move for Reading's England under-21 international Alex McCarthy, while Lennon is understood to remain keen on a return to the club for Newcastle United's Fraser Forster who spent last season on loan at Celtic Park.

"I would like to get a goalkeeper in by the Monday deadline and we are working on that," said Lennon. "It's just speculation about McCarthy at the moment. He's a player we've had watched for some time but there has been no formal contact between the clubs.

"We did put a bid in for Fraser but we've been warned off by Newcastle and I don't want to be accused of unsettling a player. We have expressed an interest in Sandomierski, but that's as far as it's gone."

Lennon, meanwhile, has revealed that Dutch defender Jos Hooiveld could re-ignite his Celtic career which appeared to be faltering when he was loaned out to FC Copenhagen last season. Injuries to Glenn Loovens and Thomas Rogne mean Hooiveld could feature for Celtic in their SPL match against Aberdeen at Pittodrie tomorrow. "He is still our player and could have a future for us," said Lennon. "He had a fine game in our friendly at Swansea on Wednesday."

Celtic captain Scott Brown misses out tomorrow as he completes a two-match domestic suspension but Lennon confirmed the midfielder is close to agreeing a new contract.

"We are not far away from a new three or four-year deal for Scott and I'd be delighted to get him tied down," he said.
