Musselburgh want return of Lady Luck

MUSSELBURGH Athletic manager David McGlynn insists his side just needs a bit of luck to halt their slide down the East Region Super League table.

After sitting in third position for a spell behind Bo'ness and Newtongrange, the Olivebank side have dropped to fourth bottom after managing just one win in their last eight league games.

Tomorrow, Musselburgh are away to Camelon but McGlynn has faith in his players and says no-one is reaching for the panic button.

"I can't knock my players for effort or the performances they have been producing," he said. "We are just due a bit of luck and, if we could get that rub of the green, it would help get a bit of our confidence back."

A win tomorrow could see Musselburgh leap up to fifth and McGlynn added:

"We could easily have come away from games with Kelty, Newtongrange and Bo'ness with nine points but, instead, lost 2-0, 2-1 and 2-1 again.

"But there's a long way to go and the big squad we have will come into its own when we start to have midweek matches after the clocks change."

Club captain Wes Mitchell made his first start of the season in last weekend's Fife & Lothians Cup win over Edinburgh United at Paties Road and looks set to have a key role to play between now and the end of the season.

"Wes is exactly what you want in your club captain as he is not shy in telling people when they're maybe not pulling their weight," said McGlynn, who will be without Paul Tansy tomorrow after his sending off last Saturday.

Bonnyrigg moved a place above Musselburgh after beating Newtongrange in their last league outing only for their 'Jekyll & Hyde' act to surface once again as they lost to Oakley on penalties in the East of Scotland Cup last weekend.

Tomorrow, Alan Miller's men are at home to bottom-of-the-table Glenrothes (2.30pm kick-off) and will be boosted by the return of Sean Martin, Charlie Brigain, Mark Robertson and Alistair Reid although

Scott Ritchie and David Burrell are still unavailable.
