Musselburgh rebuilding after exits

SUPER LEAGUE junior side Musselburgh Athletic have been hit badly with several key players departing the club.

Leaving are Adam Nelson, who has signed for Linlithgow, Ryan McCallum, who has moved to fellow Super League side Bonnyrigg, while Scott Devlin has agreed a transfer to Spartans Juniors.

However, the biggest blow was the signing by East Fife of Paul Tansey, the talented winger who scored many vital goals for Musselburgh last term.

Musselburgh manager David McGlynn is ready to bring in new players. "The players leaving have brought good money into the club and that gives me the opportunity to freshen things up a bit.

"The only new signing I've made so far is Alan Morgan from Kilmarnock but there's plenty of time before the season starts."

Tansey himself is delighted with the move: "I was asked along to East Fife pre-season training and grabbed the chance. Since then it's been great with the step up. I scored against Dunfermline midweek in our 4-1 win and it was good to get off the mark.

"I'd like to thank Musselburgh for the terrific last few seasons I had there."

Musselburgh's first game of the pre-season is at Easthouses on 27 July followed by the Spartans tournament on 31 July, 1 August.

Bonnyrigg have been busy pre-season with plenty of new faces to be seen in the squad. Added to McCallum are: Craig Fell from Dalkeith; Ryan Amos from Raith Rovers and Michael Burgess, both goalkeepers have also been signed up while James Steel and Steven Bunnion have been promoted from the very successful Bonnyrigg under-21s. On the way out, though, are keeper Greg Logan along with Charlie Brigain and Ross Hamilton.

Bonnyrigg's first outing of the pre season is a game against Hearts under 19s on 20 July then it's on to Broxburn for a game on the Premier League side's new all-weather pitch.

Broxburn have signed Jamie Nixon and Steven Kychinski from Bo'ness while Paul Shanks, Ainslie Armit and Ian Douglas have all been put on the transfer list.
