Musselburgh denied by late equaliser

Games between Newtongrange and Musselburgh in recent seasons have been close and last night's opening Dechmont South League Cup Group D match wasn't any different.

Newtongrange, who were relegated from the Super League last term, proved a match for last season's Scottish Junior Cup finalists as they came back from a goal down to snatch an injury-time equaliser and a share of the points.

Musselburgh had taken the lead through Chris King with 20 minutes left on the clock and looked like they would hold out for the win. However, with the game looking all but over, Newtongrange snatched a dramatic equaliser as Kevin Donnelly, the ex-Linlithgow stalwart, struck in the fourth minute of injury time.

Although it's early days, Newtongrange look like they will be strong challengers for a quick return to the Super League.

Tonight sees a full card of games in the competition.

Top of the pile looks like the all-Super League clash between champions Bo'ness United who visit Camelon.

Bo'ness have lost several of their key players but have filled the gaps with some super signings. Camelon, though, had a tough warm-up game against Linlithgow at the weekend so are up and running fitness wise.

Linlithgow travel to Blackburn and, on paper, should win comfortably against the South Division side.

Also playing a South Division side are Bonnyrigg Rose who host Spartans. Bathgate entertain rivals Armadale, while Broxburn make the short trip to Pumpherston.

There are all-South Division clashes when Edinburgh are at home to Livingston, who came so close to securing a Premier League spot last season, while Haddington play Dunbar in a local derby match.

Fauldhouse, another side who ran Sauchie close for promotion last time, entertain Whitburn who have dropped down to the South Division. Finally, Harthill are at home to Stoneyburn. The last two games involve Premier League sides matched against South Division clubs. Arniston play Tranent and new club Falkirk are at home to Premier side Sauchie.
