Murrayfield Wanderers aim for first win in Regional Cup

Wanderers are still without a win in the competition but their four starts have seen them lose three times by a margin of three points or less while their heaviest defeat (24-34) came after home advantage had to be given up against Heriot’s because of ground conditions.

Coach Bruce Aitchison said: “This will be the last time our Australian back row, Cam King, turns out before ending his trip around Europe.

“Cam has proved a good tackler and strong ball carrier and will be missed.

“We also have captain Nick Hart back at hooker while former Melrose and Currie pair Chris Hardie and Chris Beattie team up against the backs.”

The meeting will also be significant for Wanderers No 8 Chris Hill, who returns to his former club.

“Wanderers are a team of strays who have found a home at our Scottish Rugby headquarters base but we intend to give Boroughmuir a tough test,” added Aitchison of a team lying midway up the table. Boroughmuir have under-20 cap Alex Henderson back on the bench after long-term injury while ex-pro Ally Davidson returns from a month in Australia and Ross Bradford is in for the unavailable Damien Hoyland on the wing.

Muir are bottom of the Premiership and went down in the last minute to Gala last week but received a boost from visiting coach George Graham, who said: “On that performance they might stay up. If they can show determination like that who knows? Certainly they have a lot of quality players.

“They like to go helluva lot wide but they don’t earn the right a lot of the time.”

Heriot’s entertain Stewart’s/Melville whose former player, Harry Boisseau, lines up at centre for pro Mike Penn.

Returning to the Stewart’s/Melville side after two months out through illness is stand-off Mike Hanning, while Edinburgh development prop Phil Cringle is back from the national under-20 squad.
