Move up money list is consolation for Doak and Lee

CHRIS Doak and Craig Lee both made significant moves up the Challenge Tour money list despite missing out on victory in the Allianz Open de Lyon.

After sharing second spot heading into the final round, Doak finished fourth with Lee in a tie for fifth as Frenchman Julien Quesne took the title.

The consolation for Doak, who closed with a 68 for a 12-under total of 272, four behind Quesne, was that his cheque for around £7,700 saw him leap 12 places to 34th in the order of merit.

The top 45 after this week’s event in Rome qualify for the season-ending Grand Final. Lee, who signed off with a 69 to finish a shot behind his fellow Scot, picked up a cheque for £5,200. That saw him jump two places to 11th on the money-list, giving him a good chance of achieving his goal of a top-ten finish at the end of the season. Quesne sealed the second Challenge Tour win of his career after a three-under-par 68 in the final round. He won by two shots from Belgian Pierre Relecom, who had a flawless 66. A closing 64 gave Frenchman Michael Lorenzo-Vera third place, one shot ahead of Doak.

“It hasn’t sunk in yet,” said 31-year-old Quesne. “I am delighted. For 18 holes I fought and fought, and Pierre was playing so well I knew I had to keep my concentration. When I made the birdie on the 15th I relaxed a little, and after another birdie at the 17th I knew the trophy was mine.”

Jamie McLeary finished in a tie for 18th on 277, while Raymond Russell and Callum Macaulay finised on 281 and 282 respectively.
