Motorsport: Bogie ready for Jim Clark rally attempt

Scots rally champ David Bogie bids to increase his eight-point lead in the British Rally Championship when he tackles this weekend's Jim Clark International Rally.

The three-day event in the Borders, which starts with six night-time stages around Duns this evening, covers more than 160 miles over 16 stages. "The Jim Clark is a brilliant event," said the 23-year-old from Dumfries, who has already won two of the opening three rounds of the British Championship in his Mitsubishi Evo IX.

"The opening three rounds have been on gravel, so this will be a big change switching to tarmac, but we know most of the stages and we'll definitely be going out to win again."

Bogie though faces stiff competition from a number of lighter and more powerful Super 2000 cars, with Irish duo Robert Barrable and Jonny Greer likely to pose the biggest threat in their Skoda S2000s.

More than 250 crews will take part in the Kelso-based Jim Clark Rally this weekend as it traditionally counts for a number of championships, including not just the British, but also the Scottish Championship and the National Championship.
