Midlothian into final of Inter-County

MIDLOTHIAN stayed on course for a successful title defence in the East Women's Inter-County matches despite a change to the format on the second day due to the weather.

With heavy rain falling at the start of play and with worsening conditions expected in the afternoon at Dunfermline (Pitfirrane), the four county captains made the decision to play the singles in the morning.

That meant a result could be achieved in case the foursomes could not be completed in the afternoon - play was abandoned at 2.30pm.

Midlothian won 5-1 against East Lothian with Fife beating Stirling & Clackmannan in the other match to set up a title decider today.

Midlothian and Fife went into that tasty tie level on both match and game points.

"Our team were fantastic and so were our caddies," said Midlothian County captain Mary Richardson. "They knuckled down and dealt superbly with the atrocious conditions. It was a very gutsy performance."

Rachael Watton, Jane Turner, Karen Marshall, Wendy Nicholson and Louise Fraser were the winners for Midlothian.
