Middlesbrough ready to interview Tony Mowbray for manager's job

FORMER Hibs and Celtic manager Tony Mowbray is set to be interviewed for the manager's job at Middlesbrough this week.

Mowbray, a Middlesbrough legend from his playing days at the club, continues to be the leading contender to replace another ex-Celtic manager, Gordon Strachan, who resigned last week.

Paul Ince, Gary Megson, Nigel Pearson, Graeme Souness and Paul Lambert have also been linked with the post along with Cardiff City manager Dave Jones.

If Mowbray does get the job it would save Celtic money as he is still being paid by the club as part of his severance deal after being sacked in March and those payments are not due to come to an end until next April.

Mowbray, who made 348 appearances for Middlesbrough, is looking for a route back into management after being sacked by Celtic following just nine months in charge.

He has the promotion-winning credentials from the Championship that Middlesbrough are seeking. During his time in charge of West Bromwich Albion he guided them to the play-off final in 2007 where they were beaten 1-0 by Derby County.

However, the following season he steered Albion to promotion by winning the Championship title, as well as a place in the FA Cup semi-final.
