McLean and Kelly fly the flag for Scotland

Q-SCHOOL: Only two Scots – Chris Kelly and Alan McLean – came through the latest European Tour Qualifying School stage one events, with Walker Cup winner Michael Stewart among those to fall at the first hurdle.

Kelly, who is attached to Cawder, closed with a 76 at Wychwood Park near Crewe to tie for 16th on 290, safely inside the top 25 and ties that go forward to the next stage. Banchory’s Greig Hutcheon, last year’s Tartan Tour No 1, missed out by a shot on 292, with Stephen Gray and Duncan Stewart also falling just short on 293.

Walker Cup duo Jack Senior and Steven Brown both passed the test, but Stewart finished down in 66th on 300. McLean progressed at Fleesensee, in Germany, closing with a 72 to finish in a tie for tenth on 282.
