McEwan earns slot on glamour bill

UNBEATEN Edinburgh boxer Craig McEwan is to fight the Canadian light middleweight champion, Kris Andrews, on the undercard of the Bernard Hopkins-Roy Jones Jnr show at the Mandalay Bay Casino in Las Vegas on 3 April.

McEwan has been sparring with Edison Miranda at the Goosen Gym in Van Nuys, California, in preparation for Miranda's attempt on Lucian Bute's IBF super middleweight title in Quebec on 17 April.

Miranda and his coach Ricky Funez have been full of praise for the quality of sparring they have been getting from the Scot. Miranda said: "When this skinny white guy walked into the Goosen gym we thought 'oh no, what have they sent us'. But when we started working, Craig was just so good. He is probably the toughest sparring partner I've ever been in the ring with. He never stops."

Despite his own unbeaten status, McEwan will be taking the Andrews fight seriously. "The guy is the champion of Canada and the fact this is on the Hopkins v Jones Jnr bill means I will be showcased worldwide. I intend to be at my very best for this one," he said.
