Maureen Richmond close to recapturing glory

EXILED Scot Maureen Richmond, a former Curtis Cup player and British and Scottish girls champion, is one good round away from the British Senior Women's title.

Originally from Kilmacolm, now a Merseyside GP, she added an 80 to her opening round of 78 and her 36-hole tally of 158 gives her a one-stroke lead over England's Caroline Marron (Bromborough) and Ireland's Helen Jones (Strabane) at West Kilbride. Marron had a 77 and Jones a 79, both for 159.

Richmond said: "I had a very poor putting round I missed too many putts of around three to four feet."
