Mania rides winner on Kelso return

GRAND National-winning jockey Ryan Mania yesterday returned to his local track for the first time since his Aintree triumph as he took the Kelso feature race on You Know Yourself.

The Galashiels-based jockey, who was still in hospital after being injured in a fall at Hexham when the Borders track last raced, was at his strongest to get Sue Smith’s ten-year-old home a length and a quarter ahead of Super Ally.

Wilson Renwick received a two-day ban (13 and 14 May) for using his whip above the permitted level on the runner-up.

Mania said: “It’s always great to ride a winner at Kelso. This horse has deserved a nice race as he ran a blinder when second last time at Newcastle.”
