Maher in dreamland as GB trounce Czechs in Prague

Great Britain’S ladies basketball side scored a superb 81-57 away victory over the 2010 World silver medallists Czech Republic in Prague last night, their best performance of the summer so far as they build up for their first ever Olympic finals appearance in London next month. Tom Maher, Team GB’s Aussie coach described the win as: “Unbelieveable – it was like a dream – we all played superbly.”

Jo Leedham celebrated her 50th cap by again top-scoring with 19 points and making a British record 12 steals in what was GB’s fifth game in six days while Julie Page added 13 points, Temi Fagbenle 12 and Natalie Stafford 11, with GB dominating the rebounds 31-22 against the much bigger Czechs.

Edinburgh ace Rose Anderson, who the previous night in a 76-67 defeat had had her best game during GB’s current series, scoring ten points and taking four rebounds, last night scored seven points and added three rebounds and a block in almost 12 minutes against the World-ranked No. 4 side.

It was the first time the former Kool Kat player had been in double figures since the team went on the road following their training camp in Surrey last month.
