MacLeod keen for a repeat as Kyles book place in final

Kyles’ wing centre Robbie MacLeod hopes to relive the greatest moment of his shinty career after the Tighnabruaich club booked their place in the ­Camanachd Cup final.

The holders took extra time to see off Kingussie 3-2 in the first of the ­semi-­finals on Saturday.

Kyles ended an 18-year wait when they lifted the sport’s most celebrated trophy at Mossfield Park last season. Having secured a final berth, MacLeod would love a victory ­parade again.

“Winning the Camanachd Cup was undoubtedly the best moment of my career.” he said. “You only realise how much it means when you win it and how much it means to the people in your village. People come up to you on the street months later and they are still talking about it.

“Obviously, whoever we get in the final will be tough but we are delighted to be there again.”

Ronald Ross gave Kingussie the lead in normal time before Thomas Whyte equalised for the holders. Kingussie took advantage again in extra time with a Savio Genini strike before Colin MacDonald and namesake Roddy shot Kyles into the final.

The holders find out who they will face in September’s showcase at An Aird when Newtonmore and Fort William lock camans this Saturday at Bught Park.

That semi-final will be televised live on BBC Alba with a throw-up of 4.05pm.
