Low-key return to back of grid for David Coulthard

DAVID Coulthard will start his first race since retiring from F1 on the back of the grid after a poor qualifying run in yesterday's German touring car meeting at Hockenheim. The 39-year-old was hopeful of a good grid placing in his year-old Mercedes C Class.

However, he failed to lay a finger on the leading lights of the series and will start in 17th place following a fastest lap of 1 minute 34.79 seconds.

Force India F1 test driver and team-mate of Coulthard, Paul Di Resta, will start in sixth after posting a top time of 1 minute 33.193 seconds.

Gary Paffet will open the season from pole position.
