Lots of targets for Turnbull to tackle with Edinburgh

STEVEN TURNBULL is hoping to complete a hat-trick of winning starts for Edinburgh Rugby when they visit Leinster in the Magners Celtic League tomorrow – and a bit more besides.

As well as victory, Edinburgh need a four-try bonus point and have to hope that Cardiff beat Munster with neither gaining a bonus increment in order to squeeze into the play-offs.

Even then there is more at stake and, when reminded that Edinburgh sit joint top of the Fair Play League alongside Cardiff with a 10,000 prize for development purposes on offer, Turnbull acknowledged the possibility. "Best behaviour in order not to pick up any yellow cards in a bonus point win is our ideal scenario and something to aim for!"

According to Edinburgh forwards coach Tom Smith it is "work rate" that has earned Turnbull a recall at second row and the player hints at the shock of being omitted after sharing in wins over Ospreys and Scarlets.

"It was obviously disappointing to be moved on to the bench for the match in Connacht after facing Scarlets and then left out. But it made me work harder to try to get back," he said.

What feedback had there been on why he was dropped?

"There's a lot of competition with the likes of Jim Hamilton and Scott Macleod in my position while Fraser Mackenzie can cover back or second row from off the bench," said a clearly determined Turnbull.

In pledging to put down a marker for 2010-11, Turnbull, 23, said: "I had to get my head down and scoring four tries is something we are confident of being able to do. Leinster will be smarting, though, having lost a European semi-final last time so we have to be ready."

In fact, Leinster have slipped to three successive losses in all competitions and have never completed a seasonal double over Edinburgh (they won 21-19 at Murrayfield).
