Longniddry repeat whitewash of Gullane

Defending champions Longniddry started the new East Lothian Winter Golf League with a new-look team, but picked up right where they left off last year.

Only five members of the team that dealt out a 5-0 thrashing to Gullane last season lined up, but the new boys proved they’re up for the title defence by serving up another whitewash against Jeff Aitken’s squad.

Newly-promoted North Berwick got their season off to the perfect start with a first-ever win in this competition against local rivals Tantallon, the deciding point coming when Horry
Lawson and Craig Hardie rallied to win the 16th and 17th against the more favoured Shaun Gordon and Fraser Symon, after seeing a three-hole lead disappear when they lost the 12th, 13th and 14th.

Glen started their campaign in the Second Division in fine style, handing out a whitewash to visiting Castle Park, while Haddington signalled their intent with a win in their tricky opening tie away to Craigielaw.

Kilspindie came out on top in a close encounter away to Thorntree, whilst Whitekirk proved just too strong on their home turf against visiting
Musselburgh Old.
