There was no shortage of commitment but a distinct lack of cutting edge ensured that these two sides fought out their first ever goal-less draw.

In what was John Robertson’s 100th game in the Caley dugout, the visitors were more frustrated with the final result after passing up two of the best chances either side of the break.

Jake Mulraney was guilty of lacking composure on 34 minutes when his drive was blocked by the legs of goalkeeper Neil Alexander.

Connor Bell was just as wasteful with only eight minutes left, former Rangers and Hearts shot-stopper Alexander again spreading himself to divert the playmaker’s close-range shot behind for a corner.

In between, there was sporadic bursts of excitement in a game that was fiercely contested.

“Those were two massve chances,” said Robertson.

“It’s another clean sheet and a good point down here but it’s wee case of opportunity missed with the late chance. Neil has done what he’s done for years and pulled off two good saves.”
