Livi aiming for double after crushing win seals league

Aaron Johnston scored four tries as Livingston beat Berwick 81-12 on Saturday to clinch the RBS East One title.

The West Lothian outfit now go into their RBS Shield final with Marr at Murrayfield this weekend on a high and in search of the double.

The result at Almond Park was never in doubt with the hosts going in to the break 50-0 up. They kept up the pressure in the second 40 minutes and ran in another 31 points before a late rally for Berwick, who were relegated as a result.

As well as Johnston’s four tries, Andy MacMahon and Jason Watt ran in two each while Ross Neil, Alasdair Scobie, Lee Barrett, Geoff Caldwell and Gary Wilson all got in on the act and Craig Bolan kicked the rest of the points.

It means they have won 16 of their 17 league matches so far and have seen off the spirited title challenge of Preston Lodge.

It also caps a great turnaround from a club that was in the doldrums a couple of years ago. North Berwick beat Portobello 30-9 in the same division.

Trinity Accies saw off Earlston 16-7 in the Borders and look set to finish fifth in East Two and Broughton beat Liberton 28-3 in East Three on Saturday too.

Meanwhile, Murrayfield Wanderers won the Kirkcaldy Sevens, beating Perthshire
27-10 in the final.
