Linlithgow and Arniston march on

The last remaining semi-final places in the Dechmont Forklift League Cup were secured after a dramatic night.

Linlithgow claimed their place with a 6-1 demolition of Armadale to overtake section leaders Spartans, who were beaten 2-0 by Newtongrange Star.

And Arniston leapfrogged Tranent to take their place in the last four after beating the favourites 3-0 on their own doorstep.

The semi-finals - to be played next Wednesday - see Linlithgow at home to Arniston and Bo'ness hosting Camelon.

Linlithgow were two up early doors against Armadale through goals from Tommy Coyne and Chris King. Further goals from Coyne and Colin Strickland, with King completing his hat-trick, meant Spartans needed a barrowload to stop Linlithgow. However, Newtongrange, who had an outside chance of winning the section themselves, beat the city side with goals from Scott McCulloch and Aaron Sommerville.

Tranent were leading section four and knew that a draw at home to Arniston Rangers would have been enough to take them through. However, the visitors took the game to Tranent and it paid off with a cracking goal from Mikel Opilka just before the break.

In the second half, Lewis Coult scored Arniston's second, taking his tally for the season to seven in six games. Tadge Moriarty, the Tranent full back signed from Arniston, was red carded before Alastair Forster scored a third for the Gorebridge side before over-elaborate celebrations saw him see red for a second booking.

Elsewhere, Camelon beat Blackburn 2-1 while Bathgate won 3-1 at Livingston. Bonnyrigg's Ryan McCallum scored a hat-trick in their 5-2 win over Haddington while Musselburgh beat Dunbar 4-2 with a trialist scoring a hat-trick.
