Lindberg sets the pace at stormy Slovak Open

PERNILLA Lindberg led by one stroke as the second day's play at the Allianz Ladies Slovak Open was ended early by storms last night.

The 23-year-old Ladies European Tour rookie from northern Sweden took advantage of the day's earlier fine weather conditions to post rounds of 69 and 70 and finish on five under par at the mountain-side course, which is situated in the Bystr Valley in the Low Tatras.

England's Laura Davies, who won her 74th career title in Germany a fortnight ago, is at six under par in total after 15 holes in her second round.

Pamela Feggans is the leading Scot on one-over, having followed a 72 with a second-round 73.

After finishing, Lindberg, who had to play the second part of her first round as well as her second round yesterday, said: "I was up at 4:30am this morning and have been playing 30 holes of golf. It was tough and I tried to go in with a good attitude about it. This is why I put in a lot of hours in the gym – maybe it gives me an advantage."
