Leith have a watchful Eye on visitors

LEITH ATHLETIC, runaway leaders of the First Division, are under no illusions about the task in hand when they await the challenge of Eyemouth United at the Telford College Sports Centre, Marine Drive, kick-off 2.30pm.

"We are expecting a tough game because, although Eyemouth lost 4-1 to Gretna 2008 last weekend, they were doing well until they had two players sent off," said Leith manager Willie McFarlane, who took the opportunity to watch tomorrow's opponents when his game was postponed. "We want to win to keep our momentum going but we will need to be at our best because Eyemouth are sure to want to bounce back and get last week's result out of their system." Leith are currently 13 points ahead of second-placed Gala Fairydean and have won all three games since the break scoring ten goals in the process. Leith defeated Eyemouth 7-1 in their earlier league meeting in what McFarlane described as "possibly our best performance of the season".

Leith have Martin McAuley back fully fit and challenging for a game while central defender Steven Lynch has been outstanding along with striker Jack Combe.

Visitors Eyemouth United, despite coming off a 4-1 defeat to Gretna, are in buoyant mood. "If we had kept 11 players on the park I reckon that we would have turned them over," said manager Carl Hudson.

"Tomorrow we face Leith who are, without doubt, from a footballing point of view, the best team in our division."

Eyemouth are missing three suspended players, Jonny Simpson, Stuart Coyle and Jordan Ainslie.
