Leith bring rivals' unbeaten run to an end

LEITH ATHLETIC ended Eyemouth's seven-game unbeaten run in emphatic style. The Edinburgh side have taken the league by storm with their fast flowing football and a blend of youth and experience. This promised to be an excellent game.

Leith opened the scoring when Jason Steven's cross found Jack Combe who provided a good finish.

Darren Lavery scored his first goal of three with a neat finish inside the box. Eyemouth pulled a goal back after a good finish at the back post by Steven Shennan.

Lavery extend Leith's lead following a one-two with Combe with a good strike into the bottom corner.

Paul Coleman, who was making his return to the Leith side, hit an unstoppable shot that flew past Dean Avery to make it 4-1 at the interval.

Eyemouth came out strongly in the second half but wasted good chances in front of goal. At the other end, Lavery completed his hat-trick by turning his marker and finding the top corner.

Eyemouth had goalkeeper Avery sent off for bringing down substitute Euan Campbell in the box. From the resultant penalty, Steven Lynch hit the post, but redeemed himself by getting on the end of a corner to make it 6-1.

Captain Gary Black completed the scoring with an excellent chip over the keeper.
