Learmonth is lured to Goldenacre

HERIOT'S have added former Scotland age-grade player Max Learmonth to their squad for the coming season.

The 20-year-old wing/centre has joined from Premier One rivals Watsonians after impressing for the Myreside men last season despite their battle with relegation.

He will add even more pace to the Goldenacre backline alongside the likes of Colin Goudie, Marc Teague and Richard Mill, and Heriot's head coach Bob McKillop said: "I am delighted Max has joined us because he has all the attributes to be a quality player. He is young, strong, hard-working and has a real desire to succeed. He will add something different to our team."

Learmonth moved to Watsonians two years ago from hometown club Berwick and played for Scotland Under-19s, when McKillop was one of the coaches, in 2008/09. Last term he was part of the Scotland Under-20 squad, but injuries at the wrong times meant that he missed out on the Six Nations and the World Championships.

As one young talent leaves Watsonians, another has arrived. Ross Aitken, a 20-year-old stand-off, moves south from Howe of Fife, where he has been a key part of a side over the past two years who have progressed to Premier Three. In 2009, he scored 19 points on his debut for Scotland Under-19s against Italy.

Watsonians head coach Marcus Di Rollo said: "Ross has been training with us and I am looking forward to working with him over the coming months."
