Lawrie jnr gets his own shot at Carnoustie glory

golf: Craig Lawrie, the son of 1999 Open champion, Paul, was a proud member of the Robert Gordon’s College team that defeated Glenalmond School in the regional final of the British Independent Schools’ Golf Championships at Royal Aberdeen. Paul famously won the Open at Carnoustie – and the prestigious Angus links is the venue for the final on 22-23 April when 19 teams from all around Great Britain and Ireland will compete for the coveted trophy. In the regional finals, 17-year-old Ross Green, the team captain, 16-year-old Craig and 15-year-old Finlay McPherson scored a 3-0 success over Glenalmond’s Fergus Sandison, Tom Simmonds and Karl Frey. Jimmy Lamont, Principal Teacher of Boys PE commented: “The boys have had a great golfing season competing against many other independent schools from across Scotland.

“They put a lot of effort into their training.”
