Laura Robson edged in three sets by Ivanovic

BRITISH No 1 Laura Robson fell just short of a place in the Madrid Open quarter-finals last night as she was beaten in a deciding tiebreak by former French Open champion and world No 1 Ana Ivanovic.

The 19-year-old Londoner beat a top-five player for the first time in her career on Monday when she despatched world No 4 Agnieszka Radwaska and performed brilliantly again last night. Earlier it was revealed Robson had parted with her coach of nine months Zeljko Krajan.

Robson took the first set
7-5 before Ivanovic hit back 6-2 in the second. The Briton raced into a 5-2 lead in the decider
but was pegged back and it went to a hard-fought tiebreak, which the Serbian world No 16 edged 7-5.
