Laing shines in Tenerife as she eyes another top-ten place

SCOTLAND'S Vikki Laing had an eagle at the long 13th in a third-round 73 and stayed on course for a third top-ten of the season at the Tenerife Ladies' Open at Buenivista. On six-under par, she was in a tie for fifth place.

English veteran Trish Johnson took over at the top of the leaderboard on 12-under par after a 66. She set her sights on a 16th Ladies' European Tour title as she moved three shots clear of the field.

Laing, a winner on the US Futures Tour three years ago, started out in joint second place but dropped shots at the third, eighth and 11th before hitting back with the eagle three. The Musselburgh 29-year-old finished second in the Swiss Open last month and is currently eighth on the LET Order of Merit.

Lynn Kenny, the only other Scot to survive the cut, opened with a 77, but back-to-back rounds of 68 lifted her into a share of 12th place on three under par.
