Lacrosse: World championship hopefuls eye places

Girls from St Leonard's, Fettes College and Glenalmond College attended a regional training day as they bid to earn a place in the final squad for the 2011 under-19 Women's Lacrosse World Championship.

The training day at Fettes on Sunday also saw girls from Ampleforth College in North Yorkshire in attendance. Scotland is one of 12 countries who will be competing in the under-19 event this summer in Hannover, Germany. Alongside the World Championships, an under-17 Lacrosse Festival will take place which Scotland will send another team to.

Over 70 girls have been to training weekends with the under-19 Scotland squad in the past year and the head coach Kate Nelson-Lee has taken the squad for four years. In addition to training weekends, the squad trains twice monthly at regional training days. The selection weekend for the final U19 and U17 squads will take place in Edinburgh on 26-27 February.
