Kris Boyd interest 'unsurprising'

ALLY McCoist is far from surprised to learn Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish is still targeting Rangers' prized asset Kris Boyd.

McLeish – who brought Boyd to Ibrox back in 2006 – failed to lure the striker to the Midlands last January when a proposed move collapsed over personal terms. However, the Blues manager has refused to give up on his pursuit of the SPL's record goalscorer, who is out of contract in the summer and has yet to sign a new deal with the Scottish champions. But, far from being disappointed by McLeish's public admiration for the player, McCoist says he would be more surprised if Boyd was not attracting interest.

The Rangers assistant said: "For somebody of Kris' ability and goalscoring rate to create interest from other clubs, that wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. It's a Catch 22. If nobody was interested in him, he wouldn't be doing well. It's part of the game and probably to be expected."

McLeish is also keen to recruit Celtic's Aiden McGeady.
