Kieren Fallon lands 599-1 treble but is hit by two-day ban

Kieren Fallon may not be in line for a seventh jockeys' championship but showed why he is still one of the best riders around with a 599-1 hat-trick at Pontefract.

He struck on his first three rides - Jade, Itzakindamagic and Yurituni - and was unlucky not to have had a 100 per cent record on the card.

Mark Johnston wanted Fallon to partner Licence To Till for him in the Simon Scrope Dalby Screw-Driver Handicap, but as he could not do the weight he put him on his other runner, Submariner, with Silvestre de Sousa on the winner.

All Fallon's winners were for different trainers and he started the ball rolling on Jade in the EBF Sheila Jackson 50th Birthday Maiden Stakes.

Fallon had ridden for Jade's owner Larry Sigsworth when he was with Lynda and Jack Ramsden in North Yorkshire and successfully renewed his association.

Overcoming an unfavourable wide draw in 12, the Ollie Pears-trained Jade (7-1) led early in the straight and had enough left to hold Lowawatha by a neck.

Fallon made it two on Itzakindamagic (4-1) in the Best Horse Racing Sky Channel 432 Fillies' Nursery. As in the first race, he committed his mount just after they turned in for the climb home and the Mark Johnston-trained filly sprinted clear of her rivals to gallop two and a half lengths clear of Amistress.

"Kieren's got a good record for us. His style suits our horses. He's very strong and the more he pushes the more they go," said Johnston.

Fallon swept to his treble on Yurituni (14-1) in the totepool A Better Way To Bet Handicap.

Giving the inconsistent three-year-old an aggressive ride with blinkers on for the first time, Fallon again showed his strength and kept the filly up to her work in the final furlong as the pack closed in.

Yurituni came off a true line in the dying strides but held on by half a length from Littlemisssunshine. "Kieren gave him a superb ride," said trainer Eve Johnson Houghton's representative Nicky Rigby. Despite that observation, Fallon was banned for two days (7 and 8 October) for careless riding.
