Kenny Dalglish confident Charlie Adam will deliver at Anfield

LIVERPOOL manager Kenny Dalglish is confident new signing Charlie Adam can have the same impact at the club as he did at Blackpool.

The Scotland midfielder completed his 6.75 million transfer late on Thursday night - six months after the Reds first tried to sign him.

Blackpool held onto their prized asset in an attempt to stave off the threat of relegation but when that failed he made it clear he wanted a move to Anfield.

That has become reality and Dalglish is looking forward to the 25-year-old reproducing the kind of displays - scoring 13 goals - that made him a stand-out performer for the Seasiders last season.

"We're delighted our patience has paid off," said Dalglish. "We tried to sign Charlie in January. Blackpool wanted to keep him, which is understandable because they were trying to maintain their status in the Premier League.

"Our interest never went away. Both the club and Charlie have been patient, and then Blackpool's circumstances changed because they were relegated.

"We're looking forward to Charlie being a success here. He made a huge contribution to Blackpool's team last year and we're looking forward to him making the same contribution here.

"We know what he's got and that's why he was such a success last year in the Premier League."

Adam is keen to help bring trophies back to Anfield after finally completing his move. Liverpool have been without silverware since the 2006 FA Cup.

"I am absolutely delighted to be here," he said. "It has been a long process but now I can't wait to get started and hopefully this will be a successful period in my career and in the club's history.

"I see this as the perfect development for me to come here, play with such wonderful players and hopefully help the team to win trophies, because that's the most important thing.

"I'm delighted to be able to walk out on the same pitch as some of the players here. There are good players at the club, top, top players who I want to learn from."

The role of Dalglish in securing the signature of his fellow Scot cannot be underestimated. He identified Adam very early on as a player he wanted and even drove the midfielder into the club's Melwood training ground for his medical on Thursday. Dalglish's influence was marked when he took charge in January, turning performances and results around, and that did not go unnoticed by Adam.

"Liverpool is a massive club with terrific players and a terrific manager," he added. "You have seen since the new manager came in the forward strides that have been made.

"Kenny has a terrific respect from players and people in the game.

"He is a wonderful manager and it's an honour to be able to say I'm going to be able to play for Liverpool.

"I tasted Anfield last year, scoring here [in the Seasiders' 2-1 win] was an unbelievable feeling and hopefully I've got many more days like that as a Liverpool player."

Liverpool's director of football, Damien Comolli, conducted the negotiations with Blackpool to secure Adam's transfer after Dalglish made him a target.

And the Frenchman believes the midfielder can build on the form he showed last season.

"He's got the power, the strength, the stamina, and then technically he's got an absolutely fantastic left foot," said Comolli "He's going to bring a lot to us in the run of play but also with set-plays."
