Kader carries on scoring for Spartans

Omar KADER, Spartans' attacking midfield player, has started this season in the fashion that he ended last season - by scoring the only goal of the game in a 1-0 victory against SFL Second Division side Forfar Athletic in a pre-season friendly at Station Park.

Kader notched a hat-trick in Spartans final game of their historic East of Scotland Seniors' campaign when they lifted all five domestic trophies and they have already made their intentions clear for this coming season.

Mike Irving, Spartans head coach, was fulsome in his praise for his entire squad: "Everyone played really well in what was a terrific result. We had a very good first half in which we passed the ball accurately and had good movement. Forfar made a few changes at half-time and we had to up our tempo which we did although Forfar did hit the post.

"However, Daniel O'Donnell played a superb pass to Omar who scored with a good shot. It was a good goal which merited our good performance both in attack and in defence where Robbie Manson played as a central defender. Overall, a great exercise and a great result."

Elsewhere, Whitehill Welfare followed up their 3-0 win against Clyde at the weekend with an emphatic 5-0 victory against Kelso United from the Central Taxis First Division.

Mike Herd (2), Wayne McIntosh (2) and Wayne Sproule were the Whitehill goalscorers. "We had a good shape about us and scored some very good goals," said the Whitehill manager, Rab Paget.

"It was relatively straight- forward and while it was pleasing to score five it was also the fact that we defended well."
