Juniors: Steve relishes the chance to Pitt his wits against Meikle's Penicuik

TWO of the favourites for promotion from this season's Premier League go head to head tomorrow on Dechmont Forklift League Cup business.

Broxburn Athletic host Penicuik in the latest round of matches and home boss Steve Pittman admits he is an admirer of tomorrow's opponents.

He said: "I've seen them a couple of times recently and they are a good footballing side. It'll be a difficult game for us as they like to play a passing game.

"They are one of the teams I like to watch. They have lots of good players and they work hard for each other.

"As or ourselves, I feel we still need a couple more players if we're to have a real go at a promotion.

"We came so close last season and we learned a lot. It's early days in the season but the signs are looking good."

Penicuik boss Craig Meikle is another expecting a hard game. "They beat us 3-0 at Broxburn in the league last season so we know just how hard a team they are to play.

"We had a poor start to last year and we're out to make sure that doesn't happen this time.

WWe came back with a bang late on last year so it's important that we start well this time.

"I've been hearing stories that Broxburn have strengthened their squad so it could be harder still.

"We're confident though we can match them.

"If we play as we did against Bonnyrigg in our 2-2 draw on Wednesday then we'll give anyone a game.

"We need a bit of luck, though, because we created plenty of chances the other night but couldn't convert them."

Cup holders Linlithgow are at Harthill, who have been leaking goals lately while the Rose have scored 16 in their three games.

On paper, it should be a walk in the park for Dave Baikie's side although he doesn't see it like that.

"Even mentioning the goals we've scored recently will probably put a witches curse on the result and we'll come away with a share of the points," he said.

"Should we win, though, it will put us within striking distance of winning the section.

"If we've got 12 points by tomorrow night, it would be very difficult for the other sides to catch us.

"We will probably make some more changes to give everyone in the squad a run out before the Super League starts."

Musselburgh manager David McGlynn has another hard game tomorrow against a rejuvenated Dalkeith as manager Willie Pearson takes his side to Olivebank for another tester against top opposition.

McGlynn is well aware of Dalkeith's improvement, saying: "Willie has signed some good quality players and with the set-up he has at Dalkeith they'll want to do a whole lot better this season.

Dalkeith boss Pearson is relishing the games coming up. "The big games are good for us because we're measuring ourselves against them. We were very unlucky against Arniston and Newtongrange recently so the signs are good."

Elsewhere in the cup, Bonnyrigg travel to Edinburgh hoping for a turnaround in their fortunes. Their midweek draw with Penicuik suggests a side still not gelling yet while Edinburgh, from the South Division, will test them further.

Bathgate travel to in-form Sauchie wary of how their hosts have played in beating Super League sides Bo'ness and Camelon.

Bathgate boss Graeme Love still has his eyes on another couple of players so there may be trialists on view.

Super League champions Bo'ness are at home to new boys Falkirk Juniors.

Bo'ness have struggled a little in recent games and a narrow 2-1 win at home to Armadale on Wednesday night wouldn't have helped much.

Newtongrange are playing host to Dunbar with the home side looking to improve after beating Dalkeith last Saturday by a single goal.

Pumpherston are at home to near neighbours Livingston while Arniston travel to Haddington.
