Heather Watson will be coached on an interim basis by Great Britain’s Fed Cup captain Judy Murray for the first few weeks of her 2016 season, according to reports.

The BBC says the British No.2, who split with Argentinian Diego Veronelli last month, will link up with Murray for the Hopman Cup in Perth, the Hobart International – where Watson will be defending champion – and the Australian Open.

Watson, pictured, will play alongside Murray’s youngest son, Andy, during the Hopman Cup mixed team event, which gets under way today. Murray and Watson play their opening match tomorrow against France’s Caroline Garcia and Kenny De Schepper.

The tournament will also mark the return of Serena Williams who will team up with Jack Sock for the US team.

Williams, who won the first three majors in 2015 before losing in the US Open semi-finals, and Sock face Ukraine tomorrow.

Her singles opponent in Perth is Elina Svitolina who is winless in three matches against Williams. The Ukrainian, who will team with Alexandr Dolgopolov, says it’s always best to try to get to Williams early in a match.

“Sometimes she starts slowly,” Svitolina said. “It makes it really tough because you never know if she’s going to serve an ace, or a double fault, or it’s going to be a normal point.”
