Judo European Open to Glasgow

Glasgow is to host British Judo’s main international events from 2013.

The men’s Glasgow European Open will be held in Scotland for the first time later this year at the Emirates Arena on 19-20 October. Glasgow, the venue of next year’s Commonwealth Games, is the proposed host city for the 2015 European Judo Championships, which the BJA sees as preparation for the Rio Olympics.

British Judo chairman Kerrith Brown said: “I am delighted that Glasgow Life and EventScotland has joined us in partnership to host our annual major international event in the city from 2013 to 2016.”

Britain won its first judo medals at the Olympics for 12 years when Gemma Gibbons collected silver and Karina Bryant a bronze in London.
