Judo: Capital trio get GB call

THREE Edinburgh-based players have been confirmed in the British Judo team to compete in the Senior European Championships, writes NIGEL DUNCAN.

James Millar, Euan Burton and Sally Conway, who are all members of Edinburgh Judo Club, are included in a ten-strong team for the even in Austria from 22-25 April.

Burton is selected in the under-81kg division and he has taken three medals at this event in the last seven years.

He has recently excelled on the World Circuit, winning gold at the 2009 Tokyo Grand Slam and silver at the German Grand Prix in February.

He said: "I'm confident because I know I've done the hard work. I'm never guaranteed a result, the standard is always high and you have to perform."

A notable absentee from the selection is three-time European medallist Sarah Clark in the under-57kg weight category. Clark lives in Edinburgh but is resting after a recurring elbow injury sustained at the Minsk World Cup last year.
