Judo: Burton falls short in final

TRANENT judo ace Euan Burton was narrowly beaten by Olympic runner-up Jae-Bum Kim of Korea in yesterday's 81kg final at the German Grand Prix in Dusseldorf, writes LORIN McDOUGALL.

2007 world bronze medallist Burton had bounced back from his recent early exit in Paris by defeating Ioseb Tselauri (Georgia), Nick Hein (Germany), Emmanuel Lucenti (Argentina) and ex-European champion Robert Krawczyk (Poland) on his way to the final.

Burton's Edinburgh club-mate Sarah Adlington reached the quarter-finals of the over-78kg class before bowing out to Frenchwoman Eva Bisseni, but former European champion Sarah Clark lost her opening bout in the 63kg category to Israel's Yarden Gerbi.
