Judo: Adlington crashes out

JUDO player Sarah Adlington's World Championship debut proved a disappointing one as she bowed out in the opening round of the 78kg class in Tokyo.

The Edinburgh player was full of confidence after winning two European Cup events this summer, but the 24-year-old was eliminated in Pool D by Ukrainian Irina Kindzerska. England's six-time world medallist Karina Bryant also suffered an early exit in Pool A.

Adlington's Edinburgh club-mates Sally Conway (70kg) and 2007 world bronze medallist Euan Burton (81kg) were due to be in action today.
