Joseph Laryea aiming to beat Ricky Burns with knockout

Joseph Laryea claims to have a "secret weapon" that means he won't need to worry about the judging in Saturday night's WBO super-featherweight title fight with champion Ricky Burns at the Braehead Arena.

On the night that Burns defended his title in the same arena against Andreas Evensen in December, Laryea beat Paul Appleby for the vacant WBO intercontinental super-featherweight championship.

The Ghanaian, 25, appeared to be a clear winner, having used a powerful jab to bludgeon the South Queensferry boxer but one judge scored it 115-113 for Appleby and the others had it 116-112 and 117-111 in favour of Laryea.

And he has vowed that Saturday's judges will have no influence, saying: "The thing I remember about the Appleby fight was the judging. One judge gave it to Appleby and I think that was very wrong. I have watched the fight over and over again and I can't believe that judge. I am worried about the judges, I hope they give us better ones this time but also, I have a secret weapon that we want to show on Saturday.

"We want to take it out of the hands of the judges so either I get knocked out or Ricky gets knocked out. But we will try to take it out of the hands of the judges."

Laryea believes he was not given due credit for his victory over the highly-rated Appleby but believes that might work in his favour against Burns, who is making his second defence.

"I still feel that I am not getting the respect that I deserve," insisted the African fighter who will have height and reach advantage over the Coatbridge champion.

"But, in a way, I am very happy about that. I know I am the underdog but I am are here to win and I am very confident. Ricky is a good fighter but I am also a good fighter.

"And, when I get in the ring, everyone else will see the weaknesses I have seen in him.

"Ricky is a human being just like me but he doesn't have the heart that I have. He will fight his fight and I will fight mine and I will come out on top.

"I like the way my life has changed over the last couple of months and I still want to live this life. I am living the dream and want to continue to live the dream. Come Saturday, I will definitely win."
