John Gallagher set to pass school test

Swanston's John Gallagher is on course to pass stage one of the European Tour's qualifying school in Austria.

The former Scottish Amateur champion posted a two-under 70 for a four-under 212 to cement his place in the top-five with a round to play.

Gallagher sits in a share of fifth spot, seven shots behind Swedish leader Niclas Johansson, with the top 14 players after 72-holes progressing to stage two of the q-school marathon in November.

Perth's Steven Hume, who was in seventh at the start of day three, tumbled down to 21st with a damaging 76 for 219 and lags fours shots outside the current qualifying mark.

At Barbaroux in France, former European Amateur champion Victor Dubuisson opened up a six-shot lead over the field with a 73 for 208.
